Omiya is a hardcore railway town with all six northern shinkansen lines (Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku, Yamagata, Akita, and Hokkaido Shinkansen) and local train lines passing through. A train maintenance facility is also near Omiya Station.

To get to the Railway Museum, from Omiya Station, ride the New Shuttle line.
