Tekomai geisha existed since the Edo Period. They served as side entertainment at festivals. They only sing traditional chant-like songs called kiyari originally sung by lumberers hauling wood. 手古舞

These tekomai did not sing, so they might not be real. When they sing, they hold a fan to their mouth.
