The 37th Otsuka Awa Odori folk dance festival was held on Aug. 26, 2009. About 15 awa odori dance troupes, mostly from Otsuka or Toshima Ward, paraded along a short course in front of Otsuka Station on the Yamanote Line in Tokyo. Despite being held for 37 years already, this awa odori is little known in Tokyo. Also see my YouTube video here.

On the northern half of the Yamanote Line, Sugamo is famous for the Jizo-dori arcade where many senior citizens gather, and the Togenuki Jizo temple. It is the Harajuku for the elderly.

Mejiro Teien Garden is a small Japanese garden with a pond and fall leaves lit up at night from late Nov. to early Dec. Near Mejiro Station on the Yamanote Line.
